Stacey Swain (was Greenfield)
New Beginnings COO and Personal Trainer
Hey there, let me introduce myself!

I’m Stacey, CEO of New Beginnings Personal Training and Wellness Facility and founder of The MoveMENt, a Community Interest Company dedicated to supporting people—especially men—through life’s toughest challenges, including mental health struggles and suicide prevention.

People have always been at the heart of what I do.
Before personal training, I spent 12 years in Early Years education, always driven by my passion for helping others. That passion comes from my own journey. I’ve faced incredibly dark times, battled my own demons, and somehow made it through. Now, my mission is to bring hope to those who feel like they can’t keep going.

I know firsthand how tough mental health struggles can be.
At 13, I started self-harming. By 17, I was bouncing between antidepressants and counselling. At 28, I was finally diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Even then, things didn’t magically improve. I had moments of outward success—winning bodybuilding trophies, competing for Team UK—but inside, I was barely holding on. Just two months after a competition, I was planning my own suicide. A friend sensed something was wrong and saved my life. Even then, the crisis team didn’t see me as “in crisis enough” to help.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned? Peer support saves lives.
As an inpatient, I found more understanding from fellow patients than professionals. But the system let me down—discharged when I wasn’t ready, placed in unsafe conditions, ignored in crisis. At my lowest, I was ready to drive to the Humber Bridge. My friends fought to get me help. It took 28 hours for a response. That’s when I realised just how broken the system is.

Recovery isn’t a straight road, but it is possible.
I tried everything—CBT, DBT, Recovery College, private hypnotherapy. In 2020, after another terrifying close call, I was finally placed on the right medication. Still, the system’s failures continued—delayed crisis responses, gaps in support. That’s why I do what I do.

The MoveMENt was born to fill the gaps.
Through New Beginnings and The MoveMENt, I’ve met so many people abandoned by the system. Suicide rates are soaring, especially among men. We needed real support, so we built it—offering everything from personal training to counselling, free of charge. We partner with Andy’s Man Club, hosting group sessions every Monday night, and thanks to VANL, North Lincolnshire Council, and The National Lottery, we’ve supported over 100 men.

But this isn’t just about men.
Women’s suicide rates are rising too, often hidden behind the roles we’re expected to play. That’s why we also run menopause workshops, teen girl fitness sessions, “Health and Hijabs” programs, family fitness sessions, and support for young people struggling with mental health.

Recently, I had a moment that made me truly grateful to be here.
I got married! Sitting outside, watching my loved ones celebrate, I realized—if I had gone through with my suicide attempts, I wouldn’t have been there. That second chance at life means everything to me, and I want others to have the same chance.

New Beginnings was created to be more than just a gym.
Since 2018, we’ve built a safe space where personal training, group fitness, counselling, nutrition, and more come together to support people in every way possible. We welcome everyone—from parents needing childcare to LGBTQIA+ teens and Muslim women looking for a supportive health environment.

The MoveMENt started in 2022 after losing an old school friend to suicide.
Now, we’re not just changing lives—we’re saving them.

This year marks 10 years since I survived my first planned suicide.
If you had told me back then that I’d be here now, leading a movement, I wouldn’t have believed you. People ask if I’m scared to share my story. The answer is: absolutely. But I do it because:
-
1 in 20 people contemplate suicide.
-
6,000 lives are lost to suicide every year.
-
200,000 survivors feel invisible.
-
Our military, veterans, disabled individuals, and women fight unseen battles every day.
-
And for Andy, the friend I couldn’t save.
It’s time to break the silence.
Suicide prevention starts with open conversations, safe spaces, and real support. It won’t be easy, and there will be resistance. But change is possible.
Because:
You can make it through the darkness.
The right support can save lives.
It will get harder before it gets better, but it will get better.
And everything you need to keep going is already inside you.

Together, we can make a difference in North Lincolnshire.
Together, we can save lives.

What I am good at:
I have a deep passion for helping others, whether through fitness, mental health support, or life coaching.
